YOUR CARE
What can postpartum support actually look like?
Postpartum support isn’t just a six-week check, a feeding question or someone asking whether you’re healing properly.
It’s support for you, your baby and the life you’re figuring out together.
Some days you might need to talk through your birth.
Some days you might need someone to help you with feeding.
Some days you might need someone to hold the baby while you shower.
Some days you might need help getting dinner on the table.
And sometimes you might simply need a midwife in the room saying:
“Yes. That’s normal.”
There is no perfect postpartum checklist - because there is no one way to experience the weeks after birth.
Your support should be shaped around you, your baby, your recovery and what would genuinely make your day easier.
And you don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you need help with.
That’s part of my job.
WHAT CAN A POSTPARTUM MIDWIFE HELP WITH?
As a practising midwife, I can support you with far more than a list of clinical checks.
Your postpartum care can include support with your recovery, feeding, newborn life, practical help, emotional wellbeing and the transition into motherhood.
YOUR RECOVERY AFTER BIRTH
Your body has just done something enormous. Whether you’ve had a straightforward vaginal birth, a caesarean, stitches, tearing or an experience that didn’t go how you expected, recovery takes time.
We can talk about:
Physical recovery after birth
Recovery following a caesarean birth
Perineal recovery and healing
Postpartum bleeding
Pain and physical changes
Pelvic floor and body recovery
Rest, hydration and nutrition
What recovery can look and feel like in the early weeks
Questions or concerns about your recovery
What feels within the expected postpartum picture and what may need further assessment
When to contact your midwife, health visitor, GP or another healthcare professional
I can help you make sense of what’s happening, understand what questions to ask and feel more confident knowing what needs attention, what can wait and who to speak to.
I don’t replace your NHS maternity or healthcare team, and I don’t provide emergency care.
But you can have a calm, knowledgeable midwife in your corner while you navigate everything else.
FEEDING YOUR BABY
“Is my baby getting enough?”
“Why does feeding hurt?”
“Why does my baby want to feed constantly?”
“Is this latch right?”
“How do I bottle feed?”
“Can I combination feed?”
Feeding can come with a lot of questions.
I can support you with:
Breastfeeding
Positioning and attachment
Common breastfeeding questions and challenges
Bottle feeding
Formula feeding
Combination feeding
Pumping and expressing questions
Feeding confidence
Understanding newborn feeding behaviour
Talking through conflicting feeding advice
Practical support around feeding
Knowing when specialist feeding support may be helpful
There is no judgement attached to how you feed your baby.
The goal is to support your feeding journey, not tell you what it should look like.
If you need more specialist feeding support, this can also be coordinated through my trusted care circle.
NEWBORN LIFE
Because newborns don’t exactly arrive with an instruction manual.
You might be wondering:
Why is my baby feeding so often?
Why won’t they settle?
Is this newborn behaviour normal?
How do I know what they need?
Why are they crying?
When should I be worried?
We can talk through:
Newborn behaviour and cues
Feeding and winding
Nappies
Settling
Sleep and tiredness
Normal newborn changes
Understanding what your baby may be communicating
Building confidence with newborn care
Making those first weeks feel more manageable
Sometimes what you need isn’t another Google search.
Sometimes you need someone experienced to sit beside you and talk it through.
PRACTICAL POSTPARTUM SUPPORT AT HOME
Because sometimes what you really need is another pair of hands.
Postpartum support doesn’t have to mean sitting on the sofa talking about how you’re feeling.
Sometimes it looks like:
Holding your baby while you shower
Holding your baby while you eat
Giving you uninterrupted time to rest
Making you something to eat or drink
Preparing a simple meal
Helping with bottles and feeding equipment
Loading or unloading the dishwasher
Putting a wash on
Folding a small amount of baby laundry
Changing baby bedding
Resetting the kitchen after a meal
Lightly tidying the areas we’re using
Helping organise the things you need around you
Helping you prepare for an outing with your baby
Packing the changing bag
Helping organise postpartum supplies
Helping with older children where appropriate
Taking the baby for a cuddle while you spend time with an older child
Helping you get out of the house when you’re ready
Doing those small practical jobs that make the next few hours feel easier
The aim isn’t to leave your house spotless.
It’s to leave you feeling lighter.
THE MENTAL LOAD OF BECOMING A MUM
Sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing how to do something.
It’s having one million things in your head at once.
We can talk through:
What is worrying you
What feels overwhelming
What you keep putting off
What would make the next few days easier
How you can protect your rest and recovery
How your partner or support network can help
How to divide the mental load at home
What you can realistically let go of for now
What support you might need as you return to work
Whether another professional or specialist could help
You don’t need to have the answer before you ask for help.
We can work it out together.
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT & BIRTH REFLECTION
Sometimes you just want to talk.
About your birth.
About feeding.
About your relationship.
About how different everything feels.
About the fact that you absolutely adore your baby…
…and sometimes find motherhood incredibly hard.
There doesn’t always need to be something wrong for you to need support.
I can give you a safe, non-judgemental space to talk through your experience, your worries and the huge transition into motherhood.
And if something feels bigger than the support I can provide, I’ll help you work out who the right person is to speak to next.
WHAT IF I’VE HAD A CAESAREAN OR DIFFICULT BIRTH?
You don’t have to have had a particular type of birth to deserve postpartum support.
If you’ve had a caesarean, significant tearing, a difficult or unexpected birth, a long labour, an assisted birth or simply an experience that you are struggling to make sense of, your recovery may need a little more time and support.
We can focus on:
Your physical recovery
Pain and mobility
Feeding after a caesarean
Caring for your baby while you’re recovering
Rest and practical support
Birth reflection
Questions about your recovery
Knowing when further assessment is needed
Finding additional specialist support where appropriate
Your birth doesn’t have to have been traumatic for you to want someone beside you afterwards.
WHAT IF EVERYTHING IS GOING WELL?
Then you can still have support.
This is important.
You don’t have to wait until you’re struggling.
You don’t need a crisis.
You don’t need to be failing at anything.
You might simply want someone experienced to come to your home, check in with you, answer the questions you haven’t thought of yet, hold the baby while you shower and remind you that you’re actually doing brilliantly.
Postpartum care isn’t crisis care. It’s care.
WHAT I DON’T DO
I’m here to make your postpartum life easier - not to become your cleaner, nanny or household staff.
My practical support is intentionally light, reasonable and centred around you and your immediate postpartum needs.
I’m not a professional cleaner and don’t provide:
Deep cleaning
Whole-house cleaning
Oven or bathroom deep cleans
Heavy domestic work
Extensive laundry or ironing
Large-scale decluttering or organising
Gardening or outdoor maintenance
Heavy lifting
Routine childcare as a standalone service
Regular household management unrelated to your postpartum care
If you need more substantial practical or domestic support, that’s exactly where my wider Concierge Care Circle can help.
I can coordinate trusted additional support such as a Mother’s Help, specialist feeding support, postpartum massage, physiotherapy, meals and other services that genuinely make life easier.
DO I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I NEED BEFORE I BOOK?
No.
Honestly, this is one of the most common things women worry about.
You don’t need to create a postpartum to-do list before I arrive.
You don’t need to know whether you need a midwife, feeding support, practical help or simply someone to talk to.
That’s what we’re here to work out together.
You tell me what’s happening.
I’ll help you work out what would be most useful.
THE GOLDEN RULE
If you’re wondering:
“Can Hazel help me with this?”
Ask me.
You don’t need to work out whether something is technically “included” before you mention it.
If it’s reasonable, safe and within my role, we’ll work it out together.
And if it’s something I don’t provide, I’ll tell you honestly and, where possible, help you find the right person who does.
Because postpartum support shouldn’t feel like you’re trying to work out which box your problem belongs in.
You tell me what would make today easier.
We’ll take it from there.
